Illusionists Siegfried and Roy are world-renowned for their spectacular Las Vegas shows. They are elaborate productions that feature their fabulous white tigers, as well as lions and other exotic animals. Here is one biography on them. As you know, Roy Horn was bitten by one of his beloved pets onstage October third, 2003, on his birthday. This page is for Roy, and for Siegfried and their marvelous personal pride and fortitude and strength, to dare to be different. You see.. I dare to be different, too. Siegfried Fischbacher, who was born on June 13, 1939, began learning magic at the age of eight. He discovered he could use it to get the attention of a generally uncommunicative father, who had been in a Russian prisoner-of-war camp, and had turned to drinking to cope after returning home.
He took a job,on a cruise ship, "The Bremen"... where he did magic tricks to amuse the passengers.
Roy Horn, who was born on October third, 1944, in Nordenham, near Bremen, also came from a troubled family. His once prosperous stepfather became an abusive alcoholic after his fortunes declined.
At thirteen he became a bellboy on "The Bremen", where he saw Fishbacher's act, and suggested he make a cheetah disappear instead of a rabbit. he then smuggled in a cheetah from the zoo, and onto the ship.In 1964, the couple took their magic act to clubs in Germany, and Switzerland, where they had some moderate success.They began then playing in better clubs like Lido, in Paris.
In 1970, Fischbacher and Horn contracted to perform at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. They began adding more animals to their act. In 1981, they became the leading act at the Frontier Hotel.
In 1987, they contracted to appear at a lavish new hotel, "The Mirage". They received three white tiger cubs from the Cincinnati Zoo in 1982 and worked to preserve the species. They have bred more than thirty white tigers,including the only five pure white tigers in the world. In 1996, The Mirage added Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden to their facility.
It is a spacious exhibit, where tourists can view the tigers behind a special glass enclosed den.I have seen them, and they are magnificent.
