"Love Potion Number Nine"
Founded in 1957, by John Mc Nally (guitar, vocals) The Searchers were originally one of the thousands of skiffle groups formed in the wake of Lonnie Donnegan's success with "Rock Island Line"
By 1959 Mc Nally and Michael Pender were working together as a duet.
Later that year Tony Jackson joined (guitar/vocals). After Norman Mc Gary left The Searchers he was replaced by Chris Crummy, who renamed himself as Chris Curtis. A fifth member briefly joined, named Johnny Sandor. Meanwhile the Searchers, now a quartet of singers, became one of the top acts on the Liverpool Band scene... playing textured renditions of American R&B, rock and roll, country, soul, and rockabilly.
Love Potion Number Nine was released in 1964. Here is that version, sung by The Searchers, from Liverpool, England
Happy Halloween and I hope you enjoy the Halloween themes just right for this time of year. Thanks, Alice for the top graphic and a special thanks to Sweet Dreams Digital for digitally mastering it.
"Halloween Love"
From The Poetry Collection of Susan Jane Kahon
Solemn is the night, for All Hallow's Eve..
Shadows dance upon the midnight screen
I'm brewing up a potion for my sweetheart
So he can be mine, on Halloween...

Last Halloween, I walked a lonely path..
In hopes, my true love's face, I'd see...
Three times I called out loud for him
Beneath the aging chestnut tree...

I'd lost him, when a ghost passed by..
With the moon and stars around me...
Now I wander, endlessly, that path..
Where he first came by and found me..

The sky is lit...with eerie glow..
As I search for neon, yellow eyes......
The night's caught up in ghostly bliss..
As  my heart reveals, its dark demise....

Now that Autumn's made its grand display
On the night that's meant for spirits dead
I'll lay and wait for him to come..
On a bed of leaves, all gold and red....

And when my earthly strength shall fail..
I'll see him come, and softly turn..
When the leaves scurry to the ground
The stars will fall, but our love..will burn..
