"A Very Special Love"
Johnny Nash, born August 9, 1940. The story of Nash's association with Bob Marley has been well documented. His background is similar to that of many Jamaican performers in that he first started singing in a church choir. By his early teens he performed cover versions of popular R&B hits of the fifties. He enjoyed his first chart entry in 1957 with a cover version of Doris Day's "A Very Special Love", the song which is presented here tonight on this page. He continued to enjoy popularity with "I Can See Clearly Now" a UK Top 5 hit that was successfully covered by Jimmy Cliff in 1994 for the film "Cool Runnings" Other hits followed including "Ooh What A Feeling", but the further he drifted from reggae, the less successful the single. His career took another downward turn but was revived again when he returned to Jamaica to record an Ernie Smith composition, "Tears On My Pillow" which reached Number One in the UK Top Ten in June 1975.  He also reached the UK chart with "Let's Be Friends" and "What A Wonderful World" before deciding to devote more energy and time to films and his West Indian recording complex. "A Very Special Love"
If love has to be blind, please don't let me see
I'll put on my mask, to conceal this fantasy
But I want your sun...to always feel it shine
I want all of you, Baby... to be only  mine

Even as a friend, your heart was always true
Every part of me, wants to be with only you
Allow yourself to feel love, you can't go wrong
For you are my rock, so solid and so strong

Tell me when you're ready to open your heart
And the chains put upon us will forever depart
I'll stand by you, I'm so willing to learn
I'll sacrifice, and ask nothing in return

Kiss my lips, my darling, and make me whole
For these words of love, they pour from my soul
I have seen the ocean, and walked on silver sand
But nothing compares, to the beauty of my man
