| The Graceland estate was named after Grace Tool, a wealthy lady whose family owned the property for almost a hundred years.Gone With The Wind, the movie.. had come out the year before her neice Ruth had inherited the property...hence its decor with the Greek columns and antique heirlooms. Elvis was in Hollywood filming while his parents Gladys and Vernon were scouting out potential properties for the star. The mansion was built in 1939 on a 500-acre farm.Elvis was 22 when he bought it, on March 26, 1957. It was officially opened to the public in 1982. Noone is allowed upstairs, though, as Elvis himself was the only inhabitant of the upstairs. It is said ghosts live upstairs. That is his "Green Green Grass Of Home", perhaps..Remember that Elvis and Graceland and Elvis Presley are trademarks of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. |
