Doris Day And Andre Previn |
Susan's Poetry In Motion |
Doris Day was born Doris Mary Ann Kapplehof in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA (her grandparents were German immigrants.) Most records give her birthday as April 3, 1924, but in fact, she is believed to have been born on April 3. 1922. As a child, she had hopes of becoming a professional dancer, but a serious car accident and subsequent leg injuries meant she had to abandon her dream, whilst a teenager. Devastated that her dancing hopes were shattered, Doris applied her talents elsewhere. She began taking singing lessons and was promoted by her tutor, who managed to get her air time on a local radio station. She was brought to the attention of band leader Barney Rapp, who signed her up to perform with his band. Doris, at this time took the last name "Day" after one of her favourite songs, "Day After Day." After singing with Frank Sinatra on "The Saturday Night Hit Parade" Doris was persuaded by those close to her to make her first film, Warner Brothers "Romance On The High Seas " starring alongside Jack Carson. The film was a success. The Oscar nominated song, "It's Magic" was her first solo hit, and the way was set for screen stardom. Doris was married four times, all relatively unhappy unions. the first marriage was to Al Jordan, the second was to George Weidler, the third was to Marty Melcher, and her fourth husband was Barry Comden. Today Doris lives in the area of the town of Carmel, California. and devotes much of her time providing better conditions and care for animals. She also owns the Cypress Inn, an animal friendly hotel in Carmel. Please enjoy this lovely page and her lovely song this evening. "My One And Only Love". "Elements Of Us.." |
From The Poetry Collection Of Susan Jane Kahon |
My love, I am your elemental woman.. I touch the winds of heaven and a thousand stars light up I'm your only love, across the distant plains.. The angels cry, when I call out your name Be my kiss...the kiss that blesses all.. Who walk upon this path we have on earth What lies behind these elements of dust...? A garden, where we've planted seeds of us I reach, embrace the moonlight as it falls And illuminates, the wonder of your face... Eyes, sparkling, against the swells of night... Spring rain falling, yet still...your eyes are bright Let's run like children through the rain soaked land.. Silently strong, trees bend with the wind.. Be patient, with the gale that softly blows.. For rain and wind preceed the summer rose.... Elements of Our Love written by Susan Jane Kahon January 11 2003 ICYU 5:38pm Recovered: Sept. 19th, 2023 Some Links & Counters may no longer be Active! |
