Don Eugene Gibson, born April 3. 1928
According to a report from Dick Shuey, Don Gibson has passed away. Born Don Eugene Gibson, he was born in Shelby, North Carolina. His name has to be high on the songwriters and performers list. Don has composed such classic standards as "Oh Lonesome Me", and "I Can't Stop Loving You." More than 150 artists have performed this song, including the late, great, Elvis Presley who recorded three versions of it..Don's reap from the song even includes a gold record for the Ray Charles version.
As a teenager, he worked at a variety of jobs, including some jobs in textile mills, in his native North Carolina. He worked to make enough money to finance his efforts to be an entertainer and songwriter, His first single was "Too Soon To Know", and the second, "Oh. Lonesome Me." In 1958 Don joined The Grand Ole Opry as a regular.
He rejoined the Opry in 1975. But the nicest thing that ever happened to him, in his own words, is his wife, Bobbi. "The best thing to happen to me is her" he said. He will be sadly missed. Here is "Woman, Sensuous Woman" by Don Gibson.
Goodnight from Sugarfoot...
"The Rain"
From The Poetry Collection of Susan Jane Kahon
Listen to the rain, as it falls free upon our silken skin, making us glisten with it's faceted teardops, meant only, for us...

Listen to the rain, as I have the pleasure of feeling your body close to mine, my heart pounding in sensual rhythm, with yours....

Listen to the rain, as my emotions stir within my breast, making the fire in my body burn, as I search for the magic in your lips....

Listen to the rain, for it canot extinguish the fire ..and it plays its games with the trees and grass, as we lie exhausted, with its wetness all around us...

Listen to the rain, as it softly falls, and hides the moon, and makes the shadows of the night invisible to our eyes, yet we
can see each other by our own hearts' light

Oh Darling, Listen to the rain...
And Listen to the night...
