"RED ROSES FOR A BLUE LADY" |
SUNG BY DEAN MARTIN |
FROM THE POETRY COLLECTION OF SUSAN JANE KAHON |
I SAW THE YELLOW BOX COME TODAY IT WAS DELIVERED IN THE USUAL WAY THE BOY IN THE TRUCK HANDED IT TO ME AND SAID "THIS IS A SPECIAL DELIVERY.." WITH TREMBLING HANDS I FIRST CARESSED THE WRAPPINGS BECAUSE YOU HAD HANDLED IT AND THE STRANGEST THING HAPPENED I COULD FEEL YOUR WARMTH AND LOVE IN THIS BOX OF JOY SO I GAVE A HUG TO THE DELIVERY BOY.. I COULDN'T OPEN IT JUST YET I PUT IT TO MY CHEEK TO SMELL YOUR SCENT BECAUSE YOU HAD WRAPPED IT JUST FOR ME..I WANTED TO FEEL THAT PART OF YOU,.IT FELT SO REAL.. I GENTLY OPENED THIS HAND CARVED BOX I COULD STILL FEEL THAT PART OF YOU THAT HAD HANDLED THE WOOD.. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL.. YOU ALWAYS GAVE ME ALL YOU COULD... |
INSIDE, WRAPPED IN PAPERS, WERE A DOZEN ROSES..RED.. SO DELICATE WERE THE PETALS CARVED MY POOR HEART ALMOST BLED... THE CARD THAT WAS PLACED INSIDE MY BOX SAID "I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, MY DEAR BUT I COULDN'T HANDLE MY FEELINGS SO I HAD TO DISAPPEAR.." FOR YOU HAD GONE AWAY FROM ME AND I NEVER THOUGHT I'D EVER VIEW ANOTHER GIFT FROM YOU I THOUGHT YOU DIDN'T LOVE ME BUT WITH THIS GIFT, THIS BOX, I KNEW... YOU LOVED ME STILL..BUT COULD NOT SAY THROUGH ANY OTHER SIMPLE WAY BUT THROUGH THIS GIFT YOU'VE SAID THOSE WORDS THE SWEETEST ONES, I'VE EVER HEARD..
